Following the late heroics of Garnacho and Zirkzee for Manchester United in Gameweek 1 against Fulham at Old Trafford, United fans were in high spirits heading into the game against Brighton at the Falmer Stadium aka American Express Stadium.
Brighton, on the other hand, did not come into this game believing they are underdogs. After the departure of influential manager Roberto De Zerbi, they kickstarted their new season with an impressive away 3-0 victory against Everton to hand their new manager Fabian Hürzeler a win on his first game.
On paper, this game promised to be entertaining as two teams with an attacking style of play were clashing. It however turned out to be a super boring game with no enticing goalmouth action to report home about.
Man united fans will argue that Erik Ten Hag should have started both Zirkzee and Garnacho as they shook things up after coming on in game week 1. In this game, the duo thought they had combined once more, when Zirzkee helped in a strike from Garnacho, only for the goal to be cancelled out by VAR. However, did they really change the game?
Overall, Brighton deserved their 2-1 win as their manager did impressive attacking substitutions in the 89th, to counter the subs done earlier by Ten Hag. Welbeck, as usual, haunted his former team by scoring his sixth goal against Man united, while João Pedro sealed the win with a last minute winner.
